You are asking po the basis in computing a period. As a rule po, we exclude the first day/hour and include the last day/hour.
The basis of this rule is the last paragraph of Article 13, Chapter 1 of R.A 386, otherwise known as the Civil Code of the Philippines, which provides that:
“In computing a period, the first day shall be excluded, and the last day included. (7a)”
Corrolarily, when we compute hours, for example from 7:00-11:00, we have to exclude the first hour of 7:00 – 8:00, and count the last hour of 10:00-11:00. Thus we will start counting from 8:00 up to 11:00 which would equal to four (4) hours.
