NGA vs. LGU: Which is better in terms of career development and benefits?

Question:

Good day! Medyo nalilito po kasi ako if alin po ang dapat kong piliin.

Same salary grade, same City po ang place of assignment and permanent position kaso po yung isa ay position sa NGA at yung isa ay sa City Government Office (CGO), alin po ang dapat kong piliin? Salamat po!

Best Possible Answers:

“NGA has better opportunity for growth.” | By Blessie A. Gutierrez

“NGA hindi ganun katindi ang politics.” | By Jon Labrador

“Mas mataas pa din sahod ng NGA kahit same ang [salary grade] (SG) sa LGU.” | By Rhofel Marie Regalado

“Both are with tenurial security dahil permanent ang mga positions both sa NGA and LGU. The only difference between the two is the degree of politics involved in each position. There is politics in NGA but not to the extreme that in the event of a change in the Department Head, you are guaranteed to stay and or be in a comparable position, if detailed or re assigned.

In LGU, if you are a Department Head and you are “identified” with the outgoing administration, the danger that you maybe in a floating status may be possible (except for a few good executive heads). If not a department head, you may still be subjected to the aforementioned.

Ask yourself what is it in those agencies that you may think that may help you advance your skills and career? Yun po piliin nyo, its because it all boils down to you, your choices shall make the difference. God bless!” | By Gomel Clemente Gabuna

“With NGA, you may be assigned anywhere in the Philippines. LGU [local chief executive] LCE can only assign you to other departments or other offices within LGUs territorial jurisdiction. With limited budget on [personel services] PS, going up the ladder is not as exciting as in LGUs. The whole of LGU organizational structure is up for grabs for all qualified candidates. You need not stay in your current department. Whereas in NGAs you have to look for other field, regional or central offices for advancement. Unless you’re willing to be assigned anywhere, go with LGU.” | By Coralyn Gacal Espinosa
