C – Carefully record your obligations and disbursements. It will save you a lot of time from finding that missing centavo.

D – Don’t force balance. It’s a sin in accounting.

E – Errors do happen. Adjust your journal entries accordingly.

F – Faithfully adhere to our code of ethical standards.

G – Get a good night sleep whenever you can. There are a lot of sleepless nights ahead.

H – Health is wealth. And we also account wealth, right?

I – Integrity makes Accountant respected. Hence, preserve it.

J – Just always ensure to pay compensation on time, if not earlier, and everyone will love you for it.

K – Know your laws, rules and regulations. It will save you from future suits.

L – Leave politics to the politicians. Yours is accounting.

M – Makes no overdraft. It’s a no-no in government accounting and budgeting.

N – Never sign a disbursement voucher without complete supporting documents.

O – Often they will hate you for being strict. But do it anyway. Just be respectful.

P – Penalties hurt. So file your taxes on time.

Q – Quietly provide excellent service. They may not appreciate you all the time but do it anyway.

R – Religiously file your reports. It will help you a lot when you prepare your next reports.

S – Say no to stealing government money. Give justice to your profession.

T – Time is your most valuable asset. Use it wisely.

U – Use all available networks to connect with fellow accountants in the government. Join GABOTAF, you will surely learn a lot here.

V – Value the assistance given to you by your colleagues. You can’t do things alone.

W – Work closely with your Resident Auditor. A good working relationship with her/him will make your work easier.

X – eXamine contracts, purchase orders, and plans carefully before you sign/give a certificate of availability of funds.

Y – You better prepare your reports early. Some “intervening” tasks may come to you unexpectedly.

Z – Zealously do your job and be always grateful for it.
