What is PhilHealth GAMOT Program?
According to the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation a.k.a PhilHealth, the PhilHealth GAMOT Program or short for “Guaranteed and Accessible Medication for Outpatient Treatment” provides free outpatient medicines to PhilHealth members.
PhilHealth GAMOT is a benefit program that allows eligible PhilHealth members to avail of free or subsidized medicines for certain medical conditions, in partnership with accredited pharmacies upon a PhilHealth accredited GAMOT doctor’s advice.
Through the PhilHealth GAMOT Program, patients can lessen out-of-pocket expenses and ensure continuous access to their prescribed medications. [Ref]
The PhilHealth GAMOT program is a key part of the larger PhilHealth YAKAP (Yaman ng Kalusugan Para Malayo sa Sakit) program, expanding access to free outpatient medicines for all PhilHealth members.
Who are members of PhilHealth YAKAP Program?
The following are the members of the PhilHealth YAKAP program:
- Government Employees
- Private Employees
- Kasambahay
- Indigents
- Persons with Disability (PWDs)
- Self-Earning Individuals or Professional Practitioners
- Lifetime Members — retired, at least 60 years old, with 120 month contributions
- Beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps)
- Infants
- Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs)
- Solo Parent
- Senior Citizens
- Children under 21 years old
How to avail PhilHealth YAKAP Program?
Below are the prescribed procedures in availing PhilHealth YAKAP Program, one of which is the PhilHealth GAMOT Program, viz:
Step 1: Go to your registered YAKAP Clinic. If you are not yet registered, register through one of the following:
- eGovPH App;
- PhilHealth Member Portal
- PhilHealth Office
- Primary Care Provider
- Other Channels such as: PhilHealth Action Center, PhiHealth Customer Assistance, Relations and Empowerment Staff, and PhilHealth Agents in Member Service).
Step 2: Get your scheduled First Patient Encounter (FPE) details. Go to your registered YAKAP Clinic to confirm your schedule.
Step 3: Complete your FPE and follow-up consultation.
Step 4: Get your Comprehensive Health Screening and Monitoring Tests. You will receive your valid prescription from your registered Primary Care Provider to access any of the following:
- Basic Laboratory Services;
- Cancer Screening Test Referrals; and
- Medicines under PhilHealth GAMOT.
The prescription is generated through the GAMOT app, issued by an accredited YAKAP provider, encoded in the e-Konsulta system, and contains your unique identifiers (i.e. Unique Prescription Security Code).
Step 5: Return at scheduled follow-up consultation for regular health monitoring. [Ref]
Who can avail of the PhilHealth GAMOT benefits?
The following individuals can avail of the PhilHealth GAMOT benefits:
- All Filipinos by virtue of the Universal Healthcare Act and members-foreign nationals with qualifying contributions, and their duly qualified dependents;
- Patients diagnosed with covered conditions (as prescribed by a PhilHealth-accredited physician); and
- Patients with a GAMOT prescription from PhilHealth accredited doctors that have a Unique Prescription Security Code (UPSC). [Ref]
How to avail of PhilHealth GAMOT Program?
As discussed above, to avail of the PhilHealth GAMOT Program, members must register at an accredited YAKAP Clinic or via the PhilHealth e-Gov app and other channels, consult a clinic doctor, and obtain a prescription for covered medicines. These medications can then be claimed for free at any accredited PhilHealth GAMOT pharmacy.

Benefits of members under the PhilHealth GAMOT Program?
Under the PhilHealth GAMOT Program, qualified members can get up to 75 commonly prescribed outpatient medicines covered by PhiHealth at no cost. [See GAMOT List here]
PhilHealth GAMOT gives eligible members up to P20,000.00 worth of benefits each year, easing the burden of recurring medical expenses. The said amount however applies per calendar year and any unused GAMOT benefit from the previous year will not be carried over to the current year. Members and dependents are encouraged to maximize the benefit within the year to help reduce out-of-pocket expenses for essential medicines. [Ref]
The program supports medicines for hypertension, diabetes, asthma, infections and other common heart condition. [Ref]
